Kew Gardens, in South West London, is on my doorstep (how lucky am I?!). And a seriously beautiful and green wedding venue. Set within world-leading botanic gardens and a UNESCO World Heritage Site the gardens and the buildings within it offers a green backdrop for your big day. There are numerous venues where you can hold both your civil ceremony and reception. From the Temperate House which is the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse through to some more intimate settings such as Cambridge Cottage or The Nash Conservatory, The Princess of Wales Conservatory and the Orangery.
Using recommended suppliers means that you can continue to make your wedding sustainable at Kew, by sourcing local produce, using the amazing flora and fauna as your backdrop and encouraging guests to interact in the picturesque gardens.
Sticking with the botanical garden theme, if you’re looking for a central wedding venue that ticks all the green wedding options then the Chelsea Physic Garden should be on your list. Established in 1673, the Physic Garden is London’s oldest botanical garden so if you’re looking for history as well as stunning backdrops for your photos then this is definitely a venue for you. The venue is an outdoor venue so if you’re looking to hold a relaxing, botanical-inspired wedding then the gardens here provide a fantastic option. If the British weather doesn’t hold out or you want to ensure that there is an option for your guests should the rain descend, then marquee hire is also an option here?
The Eden Project in Cornwall is probably the ultimate green wedding venue. Europe’s largest indoor rainforest has waterfalls, floral, fauna and trees so your wedding backdrop will always be surrounded by nature. In keeping with the sustainable theme, all catering is sourced locally and you can create a bespoke and tailored menu with their chef to achieve your eco-friendly and sustainable food options.
Located in the stunning Maldives, Gili Lankanfushi is an eco-resort surrounded by turquoise sea and pristine white sand. Which is perfect if you’re looking for a beach wedding location with a hint of barefoot luxury. At the heart of this resort is preserving the nature of the local environment. And they have a sustainability policy to preserve their outstanding natural beauty. As your guests will most likely be staying at the resort it is important to note that there are eco-tours and eco projects that you can get involved with throughout your stay.
For your food options both at the hotel and during your wedding reception, all the seafood, vegetables and herbs are grown in their own organic garden. These means you can rest assured that the food you and your guests will enjoy hasn’t been flown in but has been sourced responsibly and locally.
Al Limón Ecolodge
Al Limon, is a little closer to home here in the UK, is located in the Costa Del Sol in Spain. Given that this region of Spain is really popular with British tourists, why not look at holding your wedding here as well. This location is really easy to get to being just 20 minutes from Malaga airport. And set within gardens, meadows and orchards it really is a lovely setting for your big day. Given that Spain has gorgeous Spring and Summer weather you can hold your ceremony outside before you and your guests enjoy canapes and drinks beside the pool before eating under the stars for your reception.
As with the other venues on this list, all the food is sourced locally from vegetables from the vegetable garden. And with eggs from the local chickens and meat sourced from local farms, you can rest assured that your food has not had to come far.
Kasbah du Toubkal
Morocco for me always conjures up wild deserts, beautiful sunsets, amazing food and culture, So to me it seems like the perfect setting for adventurous couples to get married in. Located in the High Atlas Mountains, Kasbah du Toubkal offers guests authentic experiences alongside maintaining their high green initiatives and social projects. The Kasbah du Toubkal helped to set up the Imlil Village Association which supports local community projects and the property is run by local Berbers meaning that you are helping to support and employ local people.
Nearly all of the food at the property is local, seasonal and organic. And people eat it in the traditional communal style. From food, architecture, energy and water management, Kasbah du Toubkal is a green oasis that should definitely be on your wedding venue list if you’re looking for somewhere a little bit different and somewhere that most of your friends and family will not have visited before.
